A final general update about our pilgrimage. At this time we still have spaces available for the June 2025 HIU Iona pilgrimage. All single rooms are booked, but we have twin/double rooms available. These rooms require double occupancy, so if you're traveling alone, you will be paired appropriately with another pilgrim.

All deadlines have passed for deposit and first payment. This means full payment would be needed to reserve your space on the trip.

To Register for this Pilgrimage
 
First, complete the traveler information form. This needs to be done by each traveler. You can find the form at https://forms.gle/GK5rzPjokdfWsZBRA
 
Second, pay the deposit. To lock in your reservation, you will need to pay the trip deposit of $500 per person. There are two methods to make your deposit payment:

• Check – make the check payable to Hartford International University, attn Business Office, and in the memo line add “Iona Trip”. Mail the check to Hartford International University, 77 Sherman Street, Hartford, CT 06105-2260
• Credit card – Call the Hartford International University Business Office at 860-509-9524 and please speak with Chantel Gardner to process your credit card payment over the phone.

Once your deposit is received, you will receive an email confirming your reserved room at the St. Columba hotel or Iona Pods. Invoices for balance due will go out in May 2024. Keep in mind that adjustments will be made to the second payment to account for the charter bus and changes in the exchange rate.
 
Do not book any other reservations at this time (Glasgow hotel, airfare, etc.). Do not book directly with the St. Columba hotel for this trip.

It does not cover airfare, hotel in Glasgow, or ground transportation. Those costs will be determined later. The prices below do not reflect the $500/pp administrative fee for HIU.

• Not much new to report since the last update about the pilgrimage. We are about half booked now with only double/twin rooms remaining.

 

• We will have another information webinar about the pilgrimage in early 2024 (January or February). Details will go out in mid November.

• The St. Columba hotel, our host hotel in Iona, has released 2024 prices. And, as expected, they have increased substantially from the 2022 prices. The increase amounts to about £400-500 per person. The rate we receive from the hotel covers three things – room, meals (breakfast and dinner), and the program with John Philip Newell. As you can imagine several factors, related to each of these, may contribute to the increase in price. However, some good news, I have heard that the 2025 rates should not be too much higher than 2024 rates. We will have exact pricing in early to mid-spring 2024. Please refer to the webinar recording and earlier updates for information on all costs for this trip.

• Folks have been getting their deposits in and reserving their spot for 2025! There are plenty of spots left, but at this time all single rooms are taken. All remaining rooms require double occupancy. If you’re traveling alone, we will try to match you up appropriately with another from our pilgrimage group.
• Important travel update! If you are traveling to an EU country, starting in 2024 US citizens will need a visa. More information can be found at the ETIAS website. The UK is not part of ETIAS, so this visa requirement does not apply for travel to UK and Scotland. Ireland also is not part of ETIAS. This will likely impact your travel plans if you are doing additional travel in Europe to an ETIAS country. More information to come.
